Brides should understand the difference between everyday makeup and the type of application that will enhance their beauty in wedding photos. For brides, the choice is simple -- learn the proper techniques from a makeup artist months before the wedding, or simply invest in a professional application on the day of the event.

For perfect photos, apply foundation evenly. Use a long lasting matte finish and end with a dusting of pressed powder. Be sure to keep pressed powder handy for touch up; you don't want a shiny nose or forehead in your pictures! Remember to match powder to your foundation color. Be sure to blend it well along the jaw line.

Avoid heavy eyeliner - it'll only make your eyes look smaller. Pass on false eyelashes, too. They can cast a shadow beneath the eyes. Instead, accent the outer corner of eyes with black or gray eyeliner.

Choose bridal makeup that's on the understated side. Our best suggestion, select a professional makeup artist with experience in bridal photography.

Because skin tends to break out or look flushed after a facial, be sure to schedule your facial at least one week before your wedding.

To keep your hands soft, apply our rich non greasy Hand Crème before going to bed, then put on a pair of white cotton gloves. While you sleep, the gloves will hold in body heat and help the hand crème penetrate. In the morning, you hands will feel softer and smoother. (This trick works great on feet, too!)

Colours
Light colors such as pastels reflect more light and hence enhance the volume of a person. Advisable for persons on the slimmer side.

Dark colors such as blacks and burgundy, by virtue of reflecting lesser light diminish the volume of the wearer and are advisable for persons on the stouter side.

Short persons should avoid wearing clothes with contrasting colors.
Fabrics
Banaras koras, brocades and silks
These fabrics have always been, are and will always be intrinsic to dressing for weddings in Indian culture. They remain a favorite with the designers as they are versatile and lend themselves to unlimited possibilities as far as embroidery is concerned.

Satin
Satin has a luxurious, rich and glossy feel. It is used as lining of expensive outfits. Satin is a versatile material for embroidery and can carry considerable embroidery weight

indian bengali bridal makeupMarriage is a ceremony of colors in India, bringing joy and happiness for the bride, groom and the families and it is no different for a Bengali bride. Bengali brides are known for their grace and beauty; and today we are here to share few details on how to do a beautiful Bengali bridal makeup easily.

So below are the step by step makeup tips for the wedding party.

Step 1:

avon care fairness creamClean your face off all previous makeup/oil or dirt. Do your regular cleansing, toning and moisturizing regime, and make sure to leave the moisturizer on the skin for 5/10 minutes before starting the makeup. This way the moisturizer will soak deep within the skin. I have used the nourishing cream from Avon. It is a good cream made using almond oil.

Step 2:

Apply a good primer or base for your makeup, before you begin the main parts. If you have oily skin make sure that you use the right priming products,, to achieve problem free application. This also is important as you want your makeup to stay for a long time on your skin. I haven’t used any primer but it is advisable to use a good base for it to look good in pictures and also for the makeup to stay longer.

Step 3:

Apply the foundation and also the concealer. Blend them well. Pat them well, so that they stay for a longer period. Avoid rubbing it as it can leave patches.

 bengali bridal eye makeup

I am going to do a coral Smokey eye but the color can be manipulated as per one’s needs. If you do not have crème shadows take a smudgy kohl pencil and apply a thick line of it on the lid. Now smudge all the kohl and create the base. Add layers for more intense color.

Step 5:

 red eye makeup ideas
red eye makeup Apply the coral eye shadow on the inner corner of the eyes and apply till the inner 2/3rd of the eye. Further, add more of the eye shadow to intensify the shade. Use a flat brush to apply so there is minimal fall outs. Now take the blending brush and blend the black and the coral shade together.

Step 6:

eyeliner makeup tips for blue eyes
makeup brushTake the eye liner and line the upper lid and the lower lid with kohl. Do not make the line thick as we already have a dramatic eye makeup comprising the smokey look. Also take a little bit of the coral shade on an angular brush and sweep under the lower lashes till 1/3rd inwards.

Step 7:

Step 8:

 eye makeup clean

Add a few coats of mascara to your lashes and the eye make up is done. Bridal eye makeup accentuates beauty to a higher level. Clean up any fallout and carry on with the rest of the look.

Step 9:

Apply blush on the cheeks and apply compact all over the face to give a matt finish to the face.

Step 10:

 traditional bengali bridal makeup
bengali wedding bridal makeupBengali brides have their foreheads and cheeks decorated with red and white decorative motifs. The starting point is the red bindi on the forehead and the use of kalki shapes is common along with leaves. I have opted for a very easy look. Traditionally the white is chandan and the red is vermillion mixed with water or creams but I prefer skin friendly paints. I used red and white color to make these motifs. These are very simple and can be easily made using a thin brush or a tooth pick or a matchstick. I’ve used a matchstick.
As kids we all have enjoyed the Fairy Tales. So every time the queen in the tale “Snow White” used to ask “Mirror mirror on the wall, show me the fairer of all”, we knew the mirror would say “Snow White”. Hang on….do we still expect the same answer when we look into the mirror?? For the bride the answer should be she “herself”.  It’s her day and she needs to look the best.
So my quest for the perfect bong bride look begun by searching the various possible pics I could fetch from the internet, learn and replicate. Frankly I was fed  up with the Aishwarya Rai and Bipasha Basu pics, as if they were the only epitome of a beautiful bengali bride!
Few are the ones that I have liked and thought of sharing them with you. I’m flying to the City of Joy in August to build my sister’s makeup box and help with her shopping. Yayyyy!!  I shall also carry my own make up goodies for a trail on her.
Meanwhile  please let me know which look do you think is the best??
1. Her golden smoky eyes perfectly compliment her dusky skin. The make up doesnt look complicated. Its neat and signifies perfection.  Love her doe eyes.

Wedding is an occasion where every one wants to look their best. But then, it’s the Bride’s day where she would want everyone paying attention to her; and for but obvious reasons she has to prepare herself very carefully. And beautiful Indian bridal makeup looks are certainly among the prettiest you will ever see!

So to help you out, we have put together some of the most beautiful Indian bridal makeup  looks. As India is a vast country and every state has different cultures and rituals, I have tried to include all possible looks. Please let me know in the comments below if I have missed out any.

Beautiful bride with uncommon white sequined dress makes an amazing fashion statement. It describes rich fashion taste to look best on the D-Day. Fashionable mangtika and necklace makes the look simply gorgeous. However, an over dose of jewelry is a big no no!!!

Of all the weddings I have photographed in India until now, it seems that the Bengali wedding is the most complex and diverse in terms of the enormous variety of customs and traditions. According to a fine lady I met at Maxima’s and Abhijit’s traditional Bengali wedding, no Bengali wedding can take place without the Stree Aachaar; the set of rituals performed not by the priest but by the women of the family. The distribution of Paan and the ululation, that sound produced by the women by moving the tongue rapidly from left to right repetitively, used to be the means of announcing the wedding and calling for social participation.

I will not try to take you through the entire wedding and all the ceremonies and rituals, but here is a small taste of what it was. I hope you enjoy them.

Nandi Mukh is a complex ceremony conducted by a priest and performed a day before the wedding, when the bride pays her respects to several generations of ancestors. After the ceremony the offerings are given to the birds and considered as if the ancestors come in the form of crows to give the blessings.

One of the accessories that distinguishes the Bengali bride from that of any other community is the ‘kajal-lata’ (kohl stick) and the ‘gaachh kouto’ (a wooden can that is supposed to contain sacred vermillion) that she carries in her hand.

Aiburobhat is the last meal of the unmarried girl at her parents house. The women of the family take turns in blessing and feeding her.

The turmeric ceremonies or gaye holud (Bengali: gaee holud, means “yellowing the body”) come before the wedding ceremony. There is one turmeric ceremony for the bride and one for the groom. At the groom’s home female relatives of the groom apply the turmeric (haldi) on him and douse him with water. The same turmeric paste is then sent across to the bride’s home for her Gaye Holud ceremony.

Gaye holud tattva -Is a set of presents for the bride from the groom’s side. One of the most important gifts is the fish with sindoor (vermilion) & nose ring, accompanied by five little fish to symbolize fertility.

The blowing of the conch shell and ‘ululation’ by the women gathered at the wedding venue are most characteristic of a Bengali marriage. The purpose is to draw the attention of all to the wedding, and also to summon the invitees, and  also a kind of social declaration from the family to the rest of the society.

The gifts arrive at the girls home include at least six sarees with blouses, petticoats and cosmetics to go with them. Also among the gifts are assorted sweets, curd, paan, dhaan and durba. A relative of the groom arrives at the bride’s house with an entourage of women bearing the gifts. Incense is lit welcome them and conch shells are blown. The bearers are given sweets and bakshish (reward).

For the bride’s gaye holud the turmeric paste is applied by the bride’s friends to her body. This is said to soften the skin, but also colors her with the distinctive yellow hue that gives its name to this ceremony.

After the application of the Holud, the mother of the bride walks around the neighborhood to ask water from five different ladies. This water will then be used in the Snan ceremony.

The snan literally means bathing. In this case, it stands for the bathing rituals that the bride and groom must individually follow on the day of the wedding. After bathing, the bride and groom must wear the new set of clothes that have been presented to them by their in-laws.
